Layout news -
The clubs OO layout Coppell is now stored after having all its point motors replaced on the scenic boards, as well as some modifications to some of the older fiddle yard ones to improve their reliability.
The new HO Swiss layout has had its entire standard gauge track laid and the under board wiring installed, and is now undergoing test running/de-bugging prior to the scenic work starting. Fitting of the meter gauge track bed is on-going. All being well the layout should make its first appearance at our show in October.
Congratulations to Mark and Claire, who got married today. All the best for the future from all at FMRC, Mr & Mrs Reynolds!
The model engineering section have completed the re-instatement of the 3.5 inch track, and the park track has now re-opened for the season.
The FMRC Facebook page has been re-launched with new photos and news updates on the new HO Swiss layout. See Links on the left.
After far too long a wait, the first signs of a replacement for the clubs HO Swiss outline layout Oberfriedhof have arrived at the clubrooms, a large pile of pre-cut plywood. It's a Swiss jigsaw!
The model engineering section has begun the restoration of the 3.5 inch gauge to the park track after a number of years out of use.
The Mayor of Barrow formally opening the newly extended park running track with various FMRC members as passengers. He didn't get to drive Furness though!
Stop Press - The newly extended park track will be officially opened by the Mayor on Easter Sunday the 24th of April at 1.30 pm. Fingers crossed for a nice day!
The ME section have now moved into there new home in the park compound. The extension is progressing well and is planned to open at Easter 2011, watch this space! At Dundee St the workbenches are wired in and in use. The library will hopefully move in next week.
Progress is made, our new (to us) workbenches in position in the new clubrooms. Still to be levelled and wired in though!
Also the arrival of the first bits of model railway. Coppell has arrived in its new home. What do you mean you can't see any railway!
In the park the new hut has been erected and is in the process of 'fitting out' by the model engineering section.
Yes, its true, the FMRC finally has a new home. After 25 years at Cemetery Lodge (during the last five of which we've been referring to it as the ''fungus factory''!), we are moving to the top floor of No1 Dundee Street, Barrow Island. We are currently cleaning and decorating our new home before we move our meager belongings across town! The model engineering section are still meeting at Cemetery Lodge on Fridays until the workshop in the park is completed.
